Would you like to be part of Vital Energi’s Strategy of Growth? The Opportunity: We’re looking for an experienced and driven SHEQ Manager within our SHEQ department. In this role, you will support the Health & Safety Director and the Head of Health & Safety by delivering proactive, high‑quality SHEQ guidance across all stages of Vital Energi’s work. This includes the design, delivery, and commissioning of construction projects within the aviation environment at Gatwick Airport, ensuring our operations meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
The Role:
- Ensure health and safety is managed to a consistently high standard across the business, working collaboratively to integrate SHEQ into business operations.
- Provide strategic and insightful support and challenge to project leaders/managers/engineers and others.
- Shape and influence practical delivery of the health and safety strategy / agenda, partnering with design teams, project delivery teams, and ancillary/support functions to translate business priorities into health and safety activity which can be implemented by operational and line managers.
- Ensure a risk‑based approach when determining solutions and developing initiatives, giving priority to high-risk and complex situations, as well as strategic issues.
- Support work winning and project design and delivery teams to ensure health and safety requirements are established, communicated, understood and delivered throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure a timely and effective response to SHEQ incidents and act as incident controller if required.
- Share learning and knowledge to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Vital Group SHEQ strategy and sharing of good working practices.
- Lead cross‑functional teams to deliver health and safety‑related projects.
- Set/agree targets and goals for improving SHEQ performance.
- Monitor organisational performance in respect of SHEQ and feedback to line managers and other appropriate colleagues through the collection and dissemination of SHEQ performance data and monthly reporting.
- Undertake the role of Principal Designer (CDM) for nominated projects, ensuring that the duties of the role are fully and effectively discharged.
- Responsible for the development, management and upgrade of elements within the SHEQ Management system.
- Support the development and delivery of a programme of inspections and audits to ensure all Vital Group of businesses remain compliant with regulatory requirements and internal management system requirements.
- Act as SHEQ exemplar – encouraging others to follow suit by addressing unsafe acts, conditions and environments when you see them.
- Use feedback and management information on the relevance and effectiveness of policy, systems and processes to help improve their design/application.
- Regularly engage with line manager to review personal performance and plan professional development.
The Person Skills and Experience:
- Membership of recognised Professional body (e.g. IOSH, IIRSM, APS, ISEP [IEMA])
- Successful portfolio in the construction and aviation industries
- A full UK driving licence
- In depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and its interpretation, and good health and safety practice in a client, employer and/or infrastructure asset context. (Essential)
- Specialist skills and qualifications in SHEQ technical areas including health and safety and environmental legislation
- Sound understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Developing and influencing positive safety behaviours
