The Opportunity

We’re excited to announce that we’re looking for a Fuel Reception Technician at our new energy from waste infrastructure, Port Clarence biomass facility in Teesside. The Fuel Reception Technician will support the shift team in ensuring safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible waste reception and processing, residues management and handling, while also undertaking mobile plant and weighbridge operations as required; in addition, they will assist the Operations and Maintenance teams with day-to-day tasks to enable the facility to operate as an integrated whole, achieving maximum levels of safety, compliance, availability, and efficiency.

The Role

  • Assists in ensuring that all waste and consumables deliveries, residues storage, management and removal operations, are conducted within prescribed Health, Safety and Environmental constraints and guidelines.
  • Assists with plant operations to enable the facility to operate within its Environmental Permit, Planning Conditions and complies with its duty of care responsibilities, whilst fulfilling its contractual and company targets for safety, waste inputs, vehicle turn-around times and residue outputs.
  • In conjunction with the traffic management system, assists in directing the refuse trucks as to where to unload, conducting periodic inspections, and screening out unacceptable waste from the waste stream.
  • Maintain the tipping floor area, ensuring any obstacles are removed or waste that is unacceptable is segregated for subsequent disposal, and that traffic flows smoothly.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and cleanliness.
  • Operation of the waste cranes to manage inputs and maintain an effective bunker profile.
  • Directing vehicle deliveries of bulk chemical supplies and LPG and ensures that approved procedures are followed to ensure safe delivery.
  • Assisting in the operation of APCr conveying and loading equipment.
  • Safely and effectively operating heavy equipment during daily operations.
  • Performing routine maintenance checks on mobile equipment and reports malfunctions.
  • Operating mobile plant including, but not limited to Front End Loader, and Forklift Trucks and other mobile equipment.
  • Operating the Weighbridge as required.
  • Ensures a high level of health and safety is always maintained by reporting any issues or incorrect procedures to the Shift Team Leader or Management team.
  • Close liaison with other operational and maintenance colleagues responsible for other elements of the site, so the facility can function as an integrated whole, and run at maximum levels of safety, availability and efficiency.
  • Assists with the inspection of waste deliveries and the collection of waste samples for duty of care, environmental, regulatory and safety compliance requirements.
  • Assists with the review and creation of all waste and residue procedures and risk assessments for all activities.
  • Ensures that any unsafe acts or conditions are reported immediately.
  • Enforces the site Environmental Permit by rejecting any load that falls outside the sites permitted waste categories.
  • Ensures that all procedures and risk assessments are always adhered to.
  • Ensures that the site rules are adhered to and clearly communicated to everyone entering or leaving the facility.
  • Ensures that the correct PPE/RPE is always worn as identified in the Risk Assessment/Method Statement applicable to the activity being performed.
  • Assists the operations and maintenance department with conducting routine tasks and recording readings and findings, such as clearing blockages and spillages, inspecting and greasing waste grabs, daily inspections of mobile plant, etc. and other tasks as identified by Plant Management and/or Line Manager.
  • Ensures that all plant defects are reported to the Shift Team Leader in a timely manner so they can be raised and actioned via the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

The Person

  • Educated to GCSE level (Maths and English), NVQ equivalent, or more than 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Understanding of waste regulations, duty of care, transfer notes etc.
  • Mobile plant experience and licences for Front Loading Shovel, Forklift Truck, mechanical access equipment.
  • IT literate and competent to operate computer software systems.
  • Current, valid UK driving licence.
  • Recognised Safety training – IOSH.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative where required.
  • Enthusiastic and competent problem solver.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
