About the Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer at Vital Energi, you will play a key role in the delivery of innovative energy infrastructure projects that support the UK's transition to Net Zero.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through construction support, commissioning and handover.
This provides a unique opportunity to see your designs progress from initial concept through to fully operational assets.
You will produce electrical designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation while collaborating with internal teams, clients and stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant and efficient engineering solutions.
You will have the opportunity to take ownership of technical deliverables, contribute to design reviews, support client engagement and help develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
At Vital Energi, you'll be supported by experienced engineers and technical specialists, with structured development, mentorship and clear progression opportunities through Senior, Principal, Associate Director and Director-level positions, while helping to develop apprentice and graduate engineers.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation for a range of renewable energy, power infrastructure and decarbonisation projects.
- Produce high-quality engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards and applicable legislation.
- Undertake electrical system studies, equipment selection and technical assessments to support safe, efficient and reliable project delivery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle to deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments and engineering assurance activities, including HAZOP and other technical review processes.
- Support the delivery of projects from concept and detailed design through to construction, commissioning and handover.
- Drive engineering excellence by identifying innovative solutions, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to continuous improvement across the business.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience producing electrical designs within renewable energy, power generation, power infrastructure, utilities, industrial, building services or related sectors.
- Experience designing LV and/or MV electrical distribution systems, including cable calculations, equipment sizing and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of electrical infrastructure including substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, MCCs and power distribution networks.
- Experience producing electrical calculations, single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts and technical specifications.
- Understanding of BS7671 Wiring Regulations and relevant industry standards.
- Experience using Amtech (Trimble Pro Design), Auto CAD, ETAP or other electrical design and modelling software would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, power generation or grid connection projects would be advantageous.
- Experience working on DNO, IDNO, ICP or utility infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
