On behalf of our client, a respected and forward-thinking charitable Trust, we are pleased to invite applications for the role of Finance Director. This is a pivotal leadership position, offering the opportunity to support the Chief Executive and Board in delivering the Trust’s Strategic Plan across the charity and its subsidiaries. The successful candidate will bring strategic financial insight, a collaborative leadership style, and a strong commercial mindset — including oversight of a significant property portfolio. Working closely with the Property Director, the Finance Director will play a key role in maximising long-term investment returns to support the Trust’s mission and sustainability.
The Finance Director will be a key member of the senior leadership team, working closely with the Chief Executive, Board of Trustees, and wider executive colleagues.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes across the charity and its subsidiaries.
- Providing high-quality financial analysis and advice to support decision-making and long-term sustainability.
- Ensuring robust financial controls, compliance with regulatory and statutory obligations, and effective risk management.
- Supporting the delivery of the Trust’s Strategic Plan by aligning financial strategy with organisational objectives.
- Managing the Trust’s financial operations, including oversight of accounting, reporting, audit, tax, and treasury functions.
- In conjunction with the Property Director, monitoring the performance of the Trust’s commercial property portfolio and supporting its active management to maximise investment returns.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and funding bodies.
- Leading and developing a high-performing finance team, promoting a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
We are seeking a strategic, commercially minded finance leader with:
- A recognised accountancy qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) and substantial post-qualification experience.
- A successful track record in a senior financial leadership role, gained in the charitable, public, or private sector.
- Strong commercial and strategic acumen, with experience managing complex financial operations and contributing at board level.
- An understanding of, or genuine interest in, the charitable sector and the role of finance in delivering social impact.
- Experience working with investment portfolios and/or property assets would be advantageous.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
- A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with the ability to foster inclusive teams and decision-making environments.
