Overview

Have you considered training in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and getting paid to make a real difference?

If so, our Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner programme could be the role for you!

Here at Vita Health Group, we support each of our trainees to become confident, patient-focused clinicians. We work with you to develop your clinical skills throughout your course, celebrating your successes and encouraging your professional development.

Vita Health Group and Everyturn NHS Talking Therapies bring together over 40 years of mental health experience to support individuals and communities across Nottinghamshire. We are looking for pioneering, skilled clinicians to join us on this journey and play a central role in shaping the delivery of NHS Talking Therapies across the region.

The Role

As a Talking Therapies partnership, we are looking for aspiring Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) to join our Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies service as Trainee PWPs in the February 2026 cohort at Birmingham Newman University.

In this role, you will provide Low Intensity CBT-based interventions whilst undertaking the Graduate Certificate or Post Graduate Certificate Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner delivered by Birmingham Newman University commencing in February 2026. This training post will equip you with the skills and knowledge to provide evidence-based treatment to clients with a range of common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

You will be joining a motivated team of mental health professionals and experienced supervisors, who will support you to complete both your academic study and your clinical delivery.

This is a fixed term role for 12 months.

After completing the training and becoming a qualified PWP, there may be an opportunity to apply for a permanent PWP post and contribute to an experienced and innovative service.

A typical working week includes 3 days of clinical practice with the service and 2 days attending university. University days will consist of face to face and remote training so you must be able to attend in person each week.

Whilst your clinical practice is likely to include some remote working, you will be required to attend one of the Nottingham offices for part of the week.

Essential Criteria

Postgraduate Certificate

  • Good degree (2:2 or above although candidates with a 3rd may be considered for the Graduate Certificate route)
  • Evidence of at least one year’s working experience in settings with high exposure to people with mental health difficulties
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients
  • Evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent administrative and time management skills
  • Flexibility and be able to provide out of hours clinics as required by service needs (one late shift of 12-8pm required).
  • An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion

Participants may not necessarily possess previous clinical or professional expertise in mental health and can undertake academic assessments at either undergraduate or postgraduate level, depending on their prior academic attainment.

Other Requirements

  • Please provide a supporting statement (1000 word maximum) outlining why you are applying for the Trainee PWP role, outlining your skillset and how you will transfer these skills into the Trainee PWP role

Please note

  • Shortlisted applicants must be available to attend an academic orientation and assessment day at Birmingham Newman University on 6th November and Microsoft Teams interviews held week commencing 10th November or 17th November.
  • Applicants must be available to commence the role for VHG induction on 2nd February 2026 and university induction on 4th February 2026. All essential equipment will be provided.
  • A Disclosure and Barring check (DBS, formerly CRB) will be required by the service for appointment to post.
  • Applicants who have completed an NHS-funded psychological professions training programme within the last two years are not eligible to apply.
  • Only those with the right to work in the UK without restriction and eligible for Home Fee status can be recruited. These rules are set by the UK government and cannot be changed by individual universities or the NHS.
