Vita CV is hiring an Accounts Assistant for an established accountancy practice in central Leeds, offering hybrid working, full AAT study support, and a documented route from Assistant to Senior Accountant. Full company name shared with shortlisted candidates at initial screening.
About the Role
This is a permanent, entry-level accounts seat with formal study support. The practice has fifteen client-facing accountants across two UK offices. This role reports to a Semi-Senior Accountant and works across a portfolio of small-business clients (limited companies and sole traders).
Responsibilities
- Prepare VAT returns for review by qualified colleagues.
- Support year-end accounts preparation under supervision of qualified accountants.
- Maintain client records in the practice management system (training given on the specific platform).
- Liaise with clients on document chasing and basic queries. Most contact is by email, occasional phone.
Qualifications
- AAT Level 2 completed, substantially in progress, or willingness to start the qualification from day one (funded by the client).
- GCSE-level Maths and English, or equivalent.
Required Skills
- Reasonable Excel: SUMIF, VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, basic formulas.
- Attention to detail and discipline with deadlines.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Candidates with no AAT exposure but a strong numerical aptitude (Maths A-level, finance-related degree, prior bookkeeping exposure) will be considered.
Preferred Skills
- The practice funds AAT Level 2 from start.
Pay range and compensation package
- Pay: £12.82 to £14.62 per hour (£25,000 to £28,500 annualised at 37.5 hours) depending on AAT level held.
- AAT study support: paid study leave (one day per study week before exams), funded course fees, funded exam costs, and a documented salary uplift at AAT Level 3 and Level 4 completion.
- Hybrid. Three days onsite in central Leeds, two from home after a six-week induction. Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm.
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays plus three additional days at Christmas.
- Defined route from Accounts Assistant to Semi-Senior to Senior Accountant. Pay bands and timing documented in the practice's internal framework.
