Opportunity to create and deliver a nature-inspired artwork that forms the centrepiece of a new wildlife and well-being garden in Westbury, Wiltshire. Be part of a new project uniting wildlife and well-being with art in the public realm.

Westbury Town Council is working in partnership with Wiltshire Council’s art in the public realm programme, Community Conversations and a Local Resident’s Group to commission a nature-inspired artwork for a wildlife and well-being garden being created in Penleigh Park, Westbury.

This is a call out to artists based anywhere in South West England who can deliver to site. We particularly encourage artists based in Westbury or the county of Wiltshire to apply.

Artwork/s should be:

  • nature-inspired
  • a new idea, or a work ‘in development’ that has not been shown elsewhere
  • permanent/long-lasting, with a lifespan of 15 years +
  • safe, durable and suitable for an exposed outdoor site
  • made of sustainable materials sourced in the UK, wherever possible

2026 timeline:

  • April – Artist call out inviting expressions of interest* inc. cost breakdown (two pages max.)
  • May – Up to three shortlisted artists paid £200 each to develop their final proposals and discuss with the Commissioning Group (video call)
  • June – Final artist selected by community vote
  • Early September – Final artwork installed on site

Budget: An all-inclusive design-to-install* fee of up to £8,000 (max) available for the final successful artist/s.
