What does it mean to be a trustee?
Trustees are the volunteers who lead charities and decide how they are run. They are sometimes also called Board Members or the Board. As a Trustee, you make decisions about the direction the charity takes, ensuring it has the resources and policies it needs to comply with legal requirements. Anyone over 18 can be a Trustee at The Burton at Bideford, regardless of how junior or senior you are in your career. Charities thrive when they have a diversity of skills, knowledge, age and lived experience on their Board. Being a Trustee requires a modest time commitment – we estimate about four hours per month. As a Trustee you can learn new skills, meet new people and help shape the future of charities you care about.
