We have a new opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Vistry Works team at the East Midlands factory. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all costs relating to our projects. Your focus is to monitor and minimise the costs of a project and enhance margin and value for money, whilst still achieving the required standards and quality. This will include quantification and management of scheme costs for both measured works along with site variations and contra charges, customer and subcontract contract management and administration.

More about the Quantity Surveyor role:

  • Assist in reviewing customer tender information and support in the preparation of the quotes where required.
  • Attend development meetings when appropriate, contract pre-start and subcontract package review meetings.
  • Be responsible for checking all contract documentation to ensure consistency with discussed terms.
  • Identify errors, omissions, anomalies and areas where unnecessary cost may arise.
  • Distribute subcontractor information packages and tender drawings, prepare all tender documentation and letters including carrying out preliminary checks on new subcontractors, checking references interviews where required.
  • Ensure timely return of tender quotes.
  • Undertake tender quote analysis and prepare cost information, requesting additional and outstanding information as required.
  • Negotiate the contract sum within the budget, including finalising costs to cover day-works and crane related costs.
  • Request, review and approve subsequent subcontractor orders.
  • Issue subcontract variation orders and development changes.
  • As required issue revised contract drawings; negotiating the cost of variations including liaising with Erectors and Construction Managers.
  • Oversee the management of client variations.
  • Ensure the correct regional approval protocols are adhered to and obtain full regional approval for contract variations prior to the undertaking of the variation works.
  • Monitor, capture and validate all client contra charges.
  • Check and approve subcontractor payments for all elements of subcontractor works.
  • You will agree final accounts with subcontractors, ensuring all works have been carried out within budget and analysing costs to assist on future estimates.
  • Attend site meetings, project team meetings, subcontractor meetings and surveying meetings as required.
  • In conjunction with the Estimator, check all costs posted to each contract, collate and reconcile all costs resulting from manufacture, delivery, measured works, variation orders, site instructions and material orders.
  • This will include providing monthly analysis of costs and identify possible areas of over expenditure at future dates.
  • Arrange and adjudicate budget settlement meetings, with the support of the wider Commercial team, Construction and Finance.
  • Work closely with other departments, including Finance, Construction and Design and attend meetings to advise on all areas that may have a cost implication.
  • Ensure all communications with our regional customers are transparent, consistent with the 'One Vistry' approach, and focused on building and maintaining strong, long‑term relationships.
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager to support business.
