As a CRO III (Control Room Operator Level III) at Manchester Street Station, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facility. Your primary responsibility will be to operate and monitor all major components of this Combined Cycle power plant while adhering to established protocols, safety and compliance, and operational procedures.
Job Functions
- Monitors and operates all major and auxiliary equipment and systems associated with a combined cycle steam powered electric generating station.
- Performs start‑ups, shutdowns and emergency procedures for safe equipment operations.
- Follows standard operating procedures and adheres to safety guidelines.
- Complies with all safety, NERC, and environmental regulations.
- Observes, records and interprets indications from instrumentation and control systems during operational rounds.
- Performs functional testing of plant systems and components, interpreting acceptability of data and performing routine operational tests and adjustments as required.
- Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents and unusual events, and provides analyses, recommendations and reports.
- Performs switching, tagging, and housekeeping duties.
- Maintains logs, records, data sheets and prepares reports, trends, time sheets, material requisitions, work orders and other administrative documents related to the business of power and steam production.
- Provides advice and counsel to the Operations Manager and Lead Operators regarding technical and administrative conduct.
- Communicates with and represents the company in its relations with contractors and other personnel.
- Qualifies to perform station lockout/tagout procedures and supports chemistry functions as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned, including pre‑job briefs, shift turnover, issuing permits, etc.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $50.74.
Work Schedule
This position requires the ability to work 12 consecutive hours on a rotating shift and to work overtime as required.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- City of Providence Boiler Operator License upon award of the position and a City of Providence Stationary Engineer’s License within one year.
- Minimum of three years of operations experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass the POSS/MASS pre‑employment test.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must successfully complete all required Control Room Operator training.
- Ability in basic math, electricity, chemistry, power plant physical sciences, print reading, and communication skills; competency demonstrated through accredited courses or company‑based equivalency exams.
- Ability to perform technical troubleshooting and document conditions in the Maintenance Management System.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally using telephone and PA system.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Teamwork and clear communication with colleagues.
- Excellent attention to detail and precise following of instructions.
Work Environment
Work on ladders, heights, high noise, or climate temperature extremes; work near high voltage and rapidly rotating equipment; cramped and/or confined positions with occasional heavy lifting. Occasional work with toxic chemicals such as solvents, acids, and caustics.
Physical Abilities
Physical work in atmospheric conditions where fumes, dust, and gases are present. Ability to work rotating shifts. Sufficient physical strength to operate manual valves and conduct repetitive motions. Flexibility, manual dexterity, and adequate hand‑eye coordination in cramped conditions. Physical stamina and endurance for demanding environments, standing, climbing stairs, and lifting heavy objects as necessary.
