The Maintenance Accounting Manager is responsible for the oversight, control, and governance of maintenance accounting across Vista operators. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong balance sheet integrity, and compliance with Group accounting policies and IFRS, while leading and developing a small maintenance accounting team.
Reporting to the Head of Finance – Maintenance Operators, the role provides accounting leadership across maintenance activity and works closely with Finance Business Partners and operational stakeholders to support well-controlled, high-quality financial outcomes.
Your Responsibilities:
- Maintenance Accounting Oversight & Financial Close
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for maintenance-related accounting across Vista operators.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for maintenance costs, accruals and prepayments, heavy and component maintenance, capitalisation, depreciation, provisions, and judgemental estimates.
- Maintain governance over maintenance-related balance sheet accounts, ensuring reconciliations are reviewed, controlled, and cleared on a timely basis.
- Review and approve journals and accounting outputs prepared across the maintenance finance team.
- Reporting, Audit & Governance
- Ensure maintenance accounting inputs into management and statutory reporting are accurate, consistent, and well supported.
- Act as the primary accounting point of contact for maintenance during internal and external audits.
- Liaise with Group Accounting, Tax, and Finance teams to ensure alignment with Group policies and IFRS requirements.
- Work closely with Finance Business Partners to ensure accounting positions and maintenance activity are consistently and appropriately reflected in financial reporting.
- Promote consistency of maintenance accounting practices across operators and jurisdictions.
- Process, Controls & Governance
- Own and maintain the maintenance accounting control framework, ensuring strong governance, consistency, and audit readiness.
- Ensure appropriate review, sign-off, and quality controls are applied across maintenance accounting activities.
- Drive improvements to processes, controls, and documentation to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Support finance transformation and system initiatives impacting maintenance accounting.
- People Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of two maintenance accountants, setting clear objectives, providing coaching, and supporting professional development.
- Foster a strong control culture with clear accountability, effective review, and appropriate segregation of duties.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with the Head of Finance – Maintenance Operators and Finance Business Partnering teams to support governance, decision-making, and consistent financial outcomes.
- Engage with Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, and Accounts Payable teams to ensure maintenance activity is accurately and consistently reflected in the financial records.
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
- 7+ years' post-qualification experience in financial accounting, controllership, or finance manager roles.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience.
- Strong technical accounting and audit knowledge.
- Excellent communication skills, able to provide clear guidance and judgement.
- Strong Excel skills; ERP and aviation or engineering exposure advantageous.
