We’re looking for a Retail Team Member to welcome visitors to the National Trust shop and plant centre at Fountains Abbey, answer their questions and help them make the most of their day. Fountains Abbey shop is an important part of the overall visitor experience, you’ll develop your knowledge of the site and retail at the National Trust. The shop is a busy and varied environment stocking a range of products across multiple departments, including plants and outdoor garden stock.

You’ll join a team of hard-working, outgoing, and friendly staff and volunteers. This role reports to the Retail Manager. As Retail Team Member, you’ll offer customers help and shopping advice, working as a team to deliver great service. Other duties include receiving and unpacking deliveries, creating and maintaining displays both inside and outside, watering/looking after our plants and keeping the shop floor and our storage facilities clean and organised.

Contract/duration: Fixed term until 30th September 2026

Hours: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays, but does not require evening or split shifts. Typically, shifts will start at 10am and finish at 5:45pm.
