• Position Function Summary

The Water/Wastewater Utility Maintenance Worker is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

This role supports the delivery of safe drinking water and the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and public health standards.

• Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs the city’s water distribution and wastewater collection system, including pipes, hydrants, valves, meters, and manholes.
• Reads meters and replaces old and/or defective meters.
• Loads and unloads equipment and supplies.
• Perform routine system maintenance such as flushing hydrants, cleaning sewer lines, and inspecting infrastructure
• Operate and maintain pumps, tools, and related equipment
• Monitor system performance and identify leaks, blockages, or system failures
• Respond to service calls, main breaks, sewer backups, and emergency situations
• Assist with water quality sampling and wastewater monitoring as required
• Read and interpret maps, blueprints, and GIS data for underground utilities
• Conduct confined space entry for inspection and maintenance of manholes and lift stations (following safety protocols)
• Assist with excavation, trenching, pipe installation, and site restoration
• Maintain accurate logs, reports, and regulatory documentation
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e. g., environmental and safety standards)
• Follow all safety procedures, including use of PPE and hazard mitigation practices
• Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Licenses and Certifications
• Valid Texas State driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
• Class D Water & Class D Wastewater License required. Or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
