The job holder is responsible for managing the daily activities of the warehouse team to ensure the smooth running of the warehouse operation. This includes staying abreast of weekly operational schedules and ensuring tasks are prioritised and work is allocated efficiently each day. The role includes hands-on picking/prepping/packing of equipment to go out on site/to dry hire clients as part of the team, and coordinating accurate despatch to vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, lead and motivate a team of Warehouse technicians/engineers.
- Coach and direct staff in correct preparation of the full range of kit including audio, video, lighting, power/cabling and rigging.
- Anticipate weekly workload and plan workflow and allocation of resources accordingly.
- Coordinate flight case loading and storage ensuring they are correctly labelled for each job.
- Ensure equipment is stored correctly, keeping working areas free for prepping/loading.
- Ensure all kit is prepped correctly and ‘fit for purpose’ before sending out on jobs.
- Supervise loading of vehicles to ensure every item is prepped/loaded according to check sheet, including scenic elements.
- Liaise with Ops Manager to identify shortfalls in kit to enable timely substitution/sub-hiring of equipment, often with short notice.
- Manage stock control of all warehouse equipment for operational and audit purposes.
- Maintain a safe working environment in the warehouse at all times.
- Ensure all warehouse documentation and administrative processes are completed effectively.
- Ensure sub hired equipment is allocated to the correct job, ensuring its collection/return and associated paperwork completed.
- Ensure last minute equipment requests from staff on site are actioned promptly and effectively.
- Ensure all dry hire returns are carefully managed and monitored to enable effective stock control, noting any missing equipment and/or return shortfalls and following up as necessary.
- Monitor warehouse processes & procedures, and implement identified improvements.
- Provide Ops Manager with feedback about each technician’s development areas/progress as input to performance reviews.
Job Holder Requirements
- Experience in warehouse work ideally within the live events industry.
- Team management and coaching experience preferred.
- Good working knowledge of lighting, sound, video, scenic, rigging, power and cabling equipment or a variety of these disciplines.
- Proven supervisory skills to lead and motivate a team.
- Ability to coach and train staff in the use and preparation of equipment.
- Hands-on approach, exerting additional effort to ensure every job is delivered correctly.
- Ability to anticipate and resolve last minute problems quickly and pragmatically.
- Displays a confident, calm and professional image whilst working under pressure.
- Ability to prepare and operate a wide range of equipment.
- Good time management and general planning ability.
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic, team player.
- Computer literate with the ability to learn and assimilate new software.
- Communicates well with site crew and project managers.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Additional requirements
The job holder will be based at our Reading Warehouse and is expected to work flexibly according to workload, with some evening and weekend coverage required.
Salary £30k - £32k depending on experience.
