About Sutton Vision
Sutton Vision is a small local charity offering information, advice and support to anyone affected by sight loss in the London Borough of Sutton. We provide a tailored package of support that can include help navigating treatment options, employment support, help with benefits and forms, advice on technical aids and a range of adapted social activities to alleviate isolation. Volunteers play a key role in the delivery of our services, from supporting social activities, one-to-one befriending, ambassadorial functions and supporting our small staff team with essential administrative tasks.
Our accounting function is outsourced to Community Action Sutton; we have no in-house finance function. We are now seeking a suitably qualified accountant to liaise with our service provider. This volunteer will advise and provide reports for the CEO and liaise with the treasurer on strategic issues. NB Sutton Vision’s turnover is approximately £300k per annum and our primary income stream is from trusts and foundations. We process between 15 to 30 transactions of various sorts per month.
Core activities:
- Review management accounts produced by CAS (outsourced provider)
- Answer any accounting queries
- Monitor and advise on income management (we have a range of one off and multi-year donors)
- Oversee and assist the production of year end accounts carried out by CAS – with particular emphasis on restricted/unrestricted splits
- Handle bank payments and movement of cash or put in place controlled procedures
- Produce finance-related board reports, liaising with the treasurer
- Assist the CEO/CAS where required with areas of finance; e.g. expenses, payroll, Uwallet, Pleo
- Assist the CEO with budgets and reports for funding applications and reports to existing funders
Skills/experience required:
- Accountancy experience
- A real interest in supporting the visually impaired community in Sutton.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft application and Xero.
- An ability to present financial information with clarity to a non-financial audience – verbally and in writing.
References and a DBS are required for this role.
