This excellent provision is seeking an experienced Head of Alternative Provision to lead their Surrey division, supporting young people who are excluded from mainstream education, without a school place, or unable to attend due to SEND or SEMH needs. As Head of Alternative Provision, you will provide strategic, operational and safeguarding leadership, ensuring high-quality education, pastoral care and positive outcomes for young people with complex needs. You will work closely with the Director and Business Manager to develop the provision, lead staff and grow partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership as Head of Alternative Provision
  • Lead safeguarding and child protection as Head or Deputy DSL
  • Line manage senior staff, teaching assistants and commissioned professionals
  • Oversee referrals, individualised programmes and behaviour strategies
  • Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, attendance and wellbeing
  • Analyse progress data and report on outcomes
  • Build strong relationships with families, local authorities and partner agencies
  • Contribute to growth, quality assurance and regulatory compliance

About You

  • Degree-level education (or equivalent) including English & Maths
  • Significant experience working with young people with complex needs and challenging behaviour
  • Experience in a managerial position within a school
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and leadership experience
  • Confident, values-led leader with excellent communication skills
  • Experience in alternative provision desirable
