My client is a well-established, privately owned specialist civil engineering contractor and plant hire business that has undergone a period of successful growth, becoming a leading player in the market. To continue this growth, they are seeking to appoint a Plant Fitter to maintain, repair, and service their plant fleet, which comprises new and nearly new machinery.

The Role

As a Plant Fitter, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a broad range of construction plant equipment, including:

  • Excavators
  • Dumpers
  • Rollers
  • Other associated plant and small tools

You will play a vital role in ensuring equipment is always safe, reliable, and ready for use on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on plant machinery, both in the workshop and on-site.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical repairs.
  • Conduct pre-delivery inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records and report any significant issues to management.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Work collaboratively with site teams to ensure equipment availability.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Plant Fitter or similar role within construction or civil engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of excavators, dumpers, rollers, and other plant machinery.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Good understanding of health & safety regulations relating to plant equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence essential; CSCS card desirable.
