Are you an experienced Assistant Site Manager with a solid background in residential new build? We're recruiting on behalf of a nationally recognised, 5-star rated housebuilder for a permanent Assistant Site Manager to join their established site team on a live development in Ipswich.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will assist in managing the development through to completion, ensuring programme, quality, and cost targets are met at every stage. When required, you will deputise for the Site Manager, motivating and managing the site-based team to ensure the highest health, safety, and environmental performance standards are consistently achieved. This is a hands-on, boots-on-site role. You'll be working closely with trades and their supervision daily, identifying problems early, communicating solutions clearly, and driving the development forward to programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Site Manager in the day-to-day control and delivery of the development
- Manage subcontractors, monitoring attendance and progress, and providing direct instruction where required to ensure contractual arrangements are achieved
- Carry out quality inspections at all key build stages — foundations, superstructure, pre-plaster, and pre-handover
- Ensure full NHBC compliance and support the Site Manager with plot sign-offs
- Maintain all daily, weekly, and monthly site paperwork to ensure full audit compliance
- Conduct health & safety inspections, toolbox talks, and site inductions
- Produce and regularly review short-term programmes in line with the overall project programme
- Liaise with sales and customer care teams ahead of plot completions
- Manage and close out snagging lists to ensure defect-free, customer-ready handovers
What We're Looking For
- 3–5 years' experience as an Assistant Site Manager on residential new build schemes
- Proven track record working with a national or regional housebuilder
- Strong working knowledge of NHBC standards and the plot sign-off process
- SMSTS qualified
- Valid CSCS card — Gold or Black preferred
- First Aid at Work certificate
- Confident managing multiple trades simultaneously
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across varying levels of seniority on site

- NVQ Level 3, 4 or 5 in Building Construction or equivalent
- Experience working towards or deputising at Site Manager level
