About the Opportunity
Amentum is currently recruiting an Engineering Specialist in Reactor Technology to join our Advanced Reactors business, within our Technology, Consulting & Innovation Business, to support technically complex projects in nuclear reactor technology. You will be a key part of our team, supporting a wide range of consultancy projects, small and large, for a variety of clients across the nuclear industry, including new build projects, SMR and AMRs, existing civil and defense plants, fusion reactor design, and decommissioning. We are looking for the application of engineering and scientific thinking to complex challenges with reactor technology, providing solutions through strong technical ability, underpinned by your knowledge and experience.
This role offers the opportunity to work on next-generation reactor technology, including SMRs, AMRs, fusion reactor designs, and various aspects of reactor design, from concept to FEED and detailed design. Our business is growing rapidly, supporting exciting projects for various clients in the nuclear industry. The ideal candidate will have a broad technical background, excellent engineering capabilities, and be proactive. A proven track record of contributing effectively within a highly regulated environment is desirable. We seek candidates who can encourage and develop team members, are hands-on, and can tackle complex technical challenges.
This position will be based in our Birchwood or Booths Park offices in North West England, with occasional visits to client sites as needed.

- Managing scope changes and contributing to project estimates.
- Identifying applicable standards and specifications.
- Working across various engineering and technical disciplines.
- Conducting engineering and scientific reviews.
- Promoting Amentum’s work through meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Minimum Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics, or engineering.
- Broad technical knowledge of nuclear reactor technologies.
- Innovative thinking for complex engineering challenges.
- Experience influencing technical strategy.
- Proficiency with analytical and design software related to reactor design.
- Experience in engineering delivery on reactor projects.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with various reactor types, coolants, and nuclear fission and fusion.
