Vision for Education is delighted to be working with a supportive secondary school in Sunderland who are seeking an enthusiastic Teacher of Textiles to join their Design and Technology department. This role offers opportunities for daily supply, long-term placements, or fixed-term contracts, depending on your availability and career goals.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Textiles, you will deliver engaging and creative lessons to secondary school pupils, inspiring them to develop practical skills, creativity and confidence in textile design and production. You will teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, helping students explore techniques such as fabric design, sewing, pattern making and textile construction while encouraging them to develop their own creative ideas.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering engaging Textiles and Design Technology lessons in line with the national curriculum
- Teaching practical skills such as fabric manipulation, sewing techniques, pattern development and textile construction
- Encouraging creativity, experimentation and independent thinking in students
- Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a safe practical learning environment
- Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to support development
- Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Design & Technology department
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- A degree in Textiles, Fashion, Design Technology or a related subject
- A passion for creative education and developing practical skills in students
- Strong classroom management and organisational skills
- The ability to inspire and motivate young people through engaging lessons
