Children’s Mental Health Assistant (full time, temporary) – Wigan – £475 – £525 per week (salary is depending on experience and/or qualifications) – Start date: February 2026

The School and Role

A specialist school in Wigan is seeking a Children’s Mental Health Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This classroom-based role involves working closely with teachers to support pupils’ educational progress, emotional wellbeing and social development. Class sizes are small, allowing for individualised support and meaningful relationships with pupils.

This is a rewarding opportunity for candidates looking to gain hands-on experience in children’s mental health, SEMH, education or pastoral support, within a structured and supportive school environment.

Responsibilities

Requirements

To be considered for this Children’s Mental Health Assistant role, you must:

  • Have previous experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
  • Have experience supporting individuals with SEMH or mental health needs
  • Be patient, adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of each pupil
  • Be committed to supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing and development
  • Possess Right to work in the UK and be able to provide 2 references
