Summary: Vision for Education are seeking Trainee School Cover Supervisors to join our successful supply teaching team and work within our partnership local secondary schools across Blackburn and surrounding areas.
What is a Cover Supervisor? As a Cover Supervisor, you will be expected to supervise pupils in the absence of a teacher, managing the class and ensuring that pupils remain on task with pre-set work. You will cover classes across the full range of secondary school subjects, but don’t worry, you are not expected to be a subject specialist in each area. The lesson will always be planned and provided in advance.
The key aspects of the Cover Supervisor role are:
- Facilitate the classes’ learning
- Manage behaviour issues
- Record accurate registers
- Provide handover notes to the absent teacher
This role provides a great opportunity to gain experience of working within a Secondary school prior to applying to Initial Teacher Training. Although previous experience of working in a Secondary School is desirable it is not essential.
Training: Vision for Education has created a bespoke FREE OF CHARGE Cover Supervisor training programme designed in collaboration with the North East Partnership Teacher Training provision. Our training programme consists of some online courses and a half-day, in-house training session, covering all aspects of the role including what to expect day-to-day and next steps. Following the session, our team will continue to support you once working within schools, continuing to offer a variety of CPD courses and inclusive support from our experienced and friendly team.

Requirements: Vision for Education are enthusiastic about appointing individuals with a passion for teaching and learning alongside genuine willingness to learn. No previous experience is required, just transferable skills from previous jobs and past experiences. The desired Cover Supervisor will have:

- A willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Desirable to be degree educated or equivalent
- Friendly and approachable
- Confidence to being assertive but supportive
- Strong communication skills
- Flexibility to work on short notice
As a Cover Supervisor, these roles often present on short notice. Individuals who wish to apply for this role should have availability to work from approximately 8:30am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday but the role is flexible to work around your logistics. By joining our successful supply teaching pool, we can offer shifts around your schedule, whether you only have availability for 1 day or 5 days per week, we are here to help you.
