Vision for Education are seeking a dedicated and reliable HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) to work within SEND schools, supporting students to achieve their academic and personal goals.

The role involves:

  • Leading whole-class learning activities and delivering lessons in the absence of the teacher.
  • Supporting teachers in planning, preparing, and adapting learning activities to meet pupil needs.
  • Providing targeted interventions to support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Working confidently with pupils with SEND, adapting approaches to promote inclusion and engagement.
  • Monitoring, assessing, and recording pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents where appropriate.
  • Promoting positive behaviour management strategies and maintaining a calm, supportive learning environment.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils to encourage confidence, independence, and motivation.
  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups across a range of subjects.
  • Delivering structured interventions in literacy, numeracy, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans.
  • Encouraging active participation and differentiated learning opportunities for all pupils.
  • Supporting classroom organisation, resource preparation, and effective learning environments.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals.
  • Leading extracurricular activities, sports sessions, or enrichment programmes to support wider development.
  • Promoting safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion in all aspects of school life.
  • Demonstrating excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills within a school setting.

The schools are specialist schools in Birmingham, supporting children with a range of learning, medical, and complex needs. They provide a highly nurturing, structured environment where each pupil receives tailored teaching, support, and care designed to help them thrive, encouraging each child to reach their full potential – academically, socially, and emotionally by tailoring to individual strengths and needs as required.

To be considered for the HLTA role, you will:

  • Hold suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (desired but not essential).
  • Have strong communication skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.
  • Be able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
