An independent specialist school in Middlesbrough seeks a Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children who have been excluded from mainstream education. Pupils are aged 8–16 and often present with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs, as well as associated needs such as Autism or ADHD. The school provides a nurturing, structured environment with a focus on helping pupils make progress emotionally, socially, behaviourally and academically.
The Teaching Assistant will work in small classes and 1:1 settings, using strong behaviour support skills to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
Requirements
- Be confident in behaviour management, including de-escalating challenging or aggressive behaviour.
- Mentor and build positive relationships with pupils, supporting them through tailored educational packages.
- Be resilient, empathetic, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Have relevant experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults, particularly those with additional needs or who are disengaged from learning.
