About the role
Do you have a passion for supporting children who require help managing their emotions? Are you interested in making a difference to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds? Vision for Education is looking to appoint a PRU Teaching Assistant to work in Pupil Referral Units and Alternative Provisions in and around Kirklevington.
You will support classes by assisting pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and dealing with behavioural issues. Pupils are aged 11-16 with EHCPs for Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs, as well as associated needs such as Autism. You will need to build strong relationships with pupils quickly, based on fun, honesty, consistency, positive reinforcement, and respect. There are opportunities for the role to become permanent after a qualifying period.
About the school
The schools offer broad curricula based on children’s needs and interests, including vocational learning opportunities. Lessons are conducted in small groups of no more than 8 pupils. Pupils are either permanently excluded or at high risk of exclusion from mainstream schools but many re-engage successfully or gain academic success within the provision. Some pupils may display verbal or physical challenging behaviours; therefore, strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills are essential.
