Home Tutor (Part time) in Middlesbrough, £25 - £30 per hour (salary is dependent on experience and/or qualifications). Start date: September 2025.
The School and Role:
I am looking for experienced and resilient QTS teachers to join our team as tutors, supporting students who do not access a traditional school setting. In this rewarding role, you will work closely with children and young adults in their homes, local libraries, or community centres, helping to re-engage them with education and fostering a love for learning. Many of the pupils face unique challenges that prevent them from accessing traditional school environments ranging from behavioural issues to high-functioning anxiety or disabilities that require home-based learning.
As a tutor, your primary goal will be to create engaging, personalised learning sessions tailored to each pupil's developmental stage, building positive relationships with both learners and their families. Supporting disengaged pupils requires a multifaceted approach, beginning with establishing trust. Understanding the underlying causes of disengagement is key to creating an effective, personalised learning plan. Tutors must set clear, achievable goals and use motivational techniques to foster enthusiasm for learning. Incorporating interactive, relevant materials helps make the learning process more appealing, while regular communication with parents or guardians ensures a consistent support system is in place.
Patience and flexibility are essential, as progress can be gradual. Tutors need to adapt their methods based on the student’s evolving needs, encouraging self-reflection and persistence. If you’re a dedicated educator passionate about inspiring students and making a real difference in their lives, we’d love to hear from you. Join us and help learners reconnect with their education.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to the pupil's specific needs.
- Tutoring involves working in a home setting; this may be the family home or a residential setting for LAC.
- You will be working 1:1 with students from various backgrounds and differentiating needs; students' ages can range from KS2 to KS4.
- Ability to read and analyse EHCP, plan accordingly, and assess the pupil's progress.
- Planning lesson plans and activities for tutoring; ensuring the curriculum is covered sufficiently.
- To confidently write weekly reports and a personalised learning plan for the pupil, to track progress and development.
- Monitor the pupil's progress and adapt strategies as necessary to ensure continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other professionals involved in the pupil's care to provide a holistic support system.
- A creative and versatile teaching style.
Experience, Knowledge and Understanding:
- Working with children/young people with additional learning needs (SEN/SEMH).
- Working with disengaged young people or looked after children.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to acquire one.
What we offer:
- Excellent daily rates paid using the PAYE system.
- Guaranteed pay scheme (subject to availability).
- Social and networking events.
- Pension contributions.
- CPD to help with your professional development.
- Access to a dedicated consultant.
