Overview

SEMH Teaching Assistant (Full time) – Sunderland. GBP13.68 p/h (salary is depending on experience and/or qualifications). May 2025 onwards (Long Term Role).

The School and Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and dynamic team at a school. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in supporting pupils who require additional help to access learning and thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH and a variety of needs in and out of the classroom to access the curriculum and develop social and emotional skills.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals to deliver tailored interventions and behaviour support plans.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, helping to boost confidence, self-esteem and emotional regulation.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support as required.
  • Promote a calm and nurturing environment, using de-escalation and behaviour management strategies effectively.
