Are You Ready to Make a Difference?

Are you a Teaching Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker or Youth Worker looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can make a genuine difference every day?

Do you have the patience, compassion and resilience to support young people with additional needs to develop their confidence, communication and independence?

Vision for Education is working in partnership with Thrive Education Partnership to recruit a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for Mary Elliot Academy in Walsall.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to use their existing skills in a specialist educational environment. Whether you have previous classroom experience or have developed your skills through care, residential support, youth work or mentoring, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

Mary Elliot Academy supports young people with a range of special educational needs, including severe learning difficulties, autism and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to help pupils access learning, develop essential life skills and participate in school life.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support during lessons and activities.

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and personal development.

  • Supporting positive behaviour and helping pupils manage challenging situations.

  • Adapting activities to meet individual learning needs.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals.

  • Supporting personal care, feeding, toileting or mobility where required.

  • Following individual support plans and safeguarding procedures.

  • Helping maintain a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Some pupils may have complex physical, medical or communication needs. You should therefore be comfortable providing appropriate support with personal care and mobility where required, with relevant training and guidance provided in line with school procedures.

Who Would Suit This Role?

We welcome applications from people with experience in:

  • Teaching assistance or classroom support.

  • Residential care or health and social care.

  • Supporting children or adults with additional needs.

  • Youth work, mentoring or pastoral support.

  • Nursing, therapy support or community services.

  • Sports coaching or activity-based support.

You do not necessarily need previous experience in a specialist school. Your transferable skills, attitude and commitment to helping young people succeed are just as important.

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Patient, caring and compassionate.

  • Reliable, proactive and adaptable.

  • Confident working as part of a team.

  • Able to build positive relationships with young people.

  • Resilient and calm when faced with challenging situations.

  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Why Work at Mary Elliot Academy?

This role offers the opportunity to develop your experience in specialist education while helping young people work towards meaningful individual goals.

You will gain valuable experience supporting communication, independence, learning and wellbeing. It could also provide a strong foundation for future careers in teaching, SEND, social care, youth work or pastoral support.

Why Work with Vision for Education?

As a SEND Teaching Assistant working through Vision for Education, you will benefit from:

  • Competitive daily pay through PAYE.

  • A dedicated consultant to support you throughout your placement.

  • Access to professional development and training opportunities.

  • Pension contributions.

  • Social and networking events.

  • Opportunities to gain experience in specialist educational settings.
