Job Summary
Mary Elliot Academy is looking for a caring, resilient and proactive Learning & Support Worker to join their specialist SEND setting in Walsall.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in care, residential support, healthcare, youth work, support work or education who want to use their existing skills in a school environment.
You will support learners with a range of complex needs, helping them access learning, develop independence and build the skills they need for life beyond school.
The School and Role
Mary Elliot Academy supports learners aged 11-18 with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs.
As a Learning & Support Worker, you will work alongside teachers and experienced support staff to provide consistent, personalised support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting learners to access classroom activities and their personalised curriculum
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Supporting communication and social development
- Encouraging independence and life skills
- Supporting sensory, practical and vocational learning
- Helping learners engage positively with lessons and activities
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Assisting with personal care where required
- Supporting mobility and physical needs where appropriate
- Working alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals
- Helping learners develop confidence and prepare for adulthood
The role will suit someone who is patient, dependable and confident working with young people with complex needs. You will need to be comfortable adapting your approach to meet individual learners and remain calm and positive when faced with challenging situations.

Previous experience in a school is not essential. Transferable experience from care, residential, healthcare and support settings is welcomed.
