Smart Teachers are currently working with a highly regarded independent school in North London who are seeking an experienced and dedicated Temporary SENCO to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified SEN professional with strong leadership experience to provide effective SEND support and guidance across the school. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring pupils with additional needs receive high-quality provision and appropriate support to help them achieve their full potential.

You will work closely with teachers, support staff, families, and external professionals to oversee the effective implementation of SEND strategies and ensure the school continues to deliver an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the school's SEND provision
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and support of pupils with additional needs
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to develop effective SEND strategies
  • Manage and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support plans
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and best practice guidance
  • Provide advice, support, and training to colleagues where required
  • Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the impact of SEND interventions

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working as a SENCO or SEND leader within a school setting
  • A strong understanding of SEND legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice
  • Excellent knowledge of assessment, intervention, and support strategies
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • SENCO qualification / National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) desirable
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one)
  • Recent satisfactory references
