We are recruiting a committed Level SEN Teaching Assistant to join a SEND school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. You will be supporting secondary-aged pupils (Key Stages 3 and 4) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, all of whom have an EHCP. Classes are small, allowing you to build strong, consistent relationships and provide meaningful, targeted support.
This role will involve working on a 1:1 basis with individual pupils across the full curriculum, supporting engagement in learning, managing behaviour, and promoting emotional regulation. Many students have experienced barriers to learning or previous disengagement from education. The school's ethos focuses on restoring confidence, building trust, and developing emotional regulation, independence, and pro-social behaviour, helping pupils prepare positively for adulthood and the workplace.
You will work as part of an experienced, supportive team in a structured and nurturing environment where staff wellbeing and collaboration are highly valued.
Requirements:
- Experience working with secondary-aged young people
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and/or SEND
- A strong commitment to helping young people make progress
- The ability to work effectively within a team
- Confidence in managing fast-paced and challenging situations
- A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) to support a quick start
What We Offer:
- Work-Life Balance - No planning or marking outside school hours
- Long-Term Stability - Ongoing role with potential for permanency
- Ongoing CPD - Access to regular training and professional development
- Career Development - Opportunities to build experience within SEND
- Dedicated Support - Ongoing guidance from your own personal consultant
