We are recruiting for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The school has a specialist provision that supports pupils with autism and communication needs, offering a structured and nurturing environment where children can thrive both academically and socially.

This rewarding role involves working with pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, supporting children with a range of additional needs both within the specialist provision and in mainstream classrooms. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEND team to deliver personalised support that promotes communication, independence, and positive engagement with learning.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children with SEND and be passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning. You should be confident using communication-based strategies and able to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

Experience and training needed for this role include:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND, ideally autism and communication needs
  • Understanding of speech and language development and social communication difficulties
  • Experience using visual supports, PECS, Makaton, or similar communication strategies
  • Ability to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Experience working with pupils with sensory processing needs
  • Training in safeguarding and behaviour support
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach
