1:1 Support Assistant
Bootle, Sefton
Β£95-Β£100 per day
Monday-Friday, 8:45am-3:45pm
Starting 2 November | Long-term, ongoing position
Vision for Education is looking for a calm, patient and committed Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support at a welcoming primary school in Bootle.
This full-time role starts on 2 November and is expected to continue throughout the academic year. You will join a supportive school team, working closely with the class teacher and SEND staff to help a pupil feel safe, engage in learning and develop their independence.
The role
You will support a pupil with moderate learning difficulties and additional communication, attention and emotional-regulation needs. The pupil requires continuous adult supervision because of limited awareness of danger, and may find transitions or moving away from preferred activities challenging.
Building a trusting relationship and providing a consistent, reassuring approach will be central to your role.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing continuous 1:1 support and supervision to keep the pupil safe
- Supporting learning through practical, visual and play-based activities
- Breaking activities into short, manageable steps
- Using visual resources, including Now and Next boards, visual choices and Stop/Go prompts
- Giving clear, simple instructions and allowing time for processing
- Helping the pupil manage emotions and move between activities
- Encouraging positive communication with adults and peers
- Using interests such as music, numbers, sensory activities and puzzles to support engagement
- Following the pupil's individual support plan alongside the class teacher and SEND team
- Supporting access to a quieter space when needed
About you
You will be nurturing and encouraging, with the confidence to maintain clear, consistent boundaries. You should be observant, proactive and comfortable supporting a child who needs close supervision throughout the school day.
Experience supporting children with SEND, learning difficulties, communication needs or emotional-regulation difficulties would be particularly valuable. Familiarity with visual communication strategies is also desirable.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Confidence providing intensive 1:1 SEND support
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Suitable references covering recent employment
