Overview
School Catering Assistant – York
September 2026 – Ongoing, 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday (mornings until after lunchtime). Long-term supply with the potential for ongoing work.
Vision for Education are partnering with welcoming primary schools across the East Riding & North Yorkshire area to recruit School Catering Assistants with administrative responsibilities. This is an opportunity for an organised and reliable individual who enjoys working as part of a school community. The roles from September 2026 can be flexible, with medium/long term assignments and potential permanent opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Support the daily operation of the school's catering service.
- Heat and serve frozen school meals.
- Ensure food is prepared and served safely in line with food hygiene standards.
- Place food orders and manage stock levels.
- Maintain accurate records and complete associated administrative tasks.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organised and compliant with health and safety regulations.
- Provide a friendly and efficient service to pupils and staff.
Ideal Candidate
- Hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (courses can be provided).
- Have previous experience working in a catering, school kitchen or similar environment.
- Be confident using IT systems to place orders and manage stock.
- Be organised, reliable and able to work independently.
- Have excellent communication skills and enjoy working within a school setting.
