Position:Mechanical Workshop Technician

Location: Tower Hamlets

Salary: Β£29,816.32 - Β£31,149

Smart Teachers are working with a forward-thinking secondary STEM specialist setting seeking a practical and enthusiastic Mechanical Workshop Technician to join their team as soon as possible.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in mechanical engineering, automotive mechanics, manufacturing, fabrication, workshop technology or a similar technical trade who is looking to use their industry experience in an educational environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the school's engineering programme, maintaining workshop equipment and machinery, and helping students develop practical engineering skills through exciting hands-on projects, including the construction of a GreenPower race car.

The role will involve:

  • Maintaining and servicing workshop machinery and technical equipment.
  • Supporting students and staff with practical engineering and STEM activities.
  • Assisting with the construction and development of engineering projects.
  • Ensuring equipment is used safely and maintained in line with health and safety procedures.
  • Managing workshop materials, tools and equipment.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in mechanical engineering, vehicle mechanics, manufacturing, fabrication or a similar technical field.
  • Confidence using workshop machinery, power tools and technical equipment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety within a workshop or engineering environment.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A passion for supporting young people and developing the next generation of engineers.
