Position: Facilities Assistant

Smart Teachers is recruiting on behalf of a successful and well-established secondary school in East London for a proactive and reliable

Facilities Assistant to join their site team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous facilities, site, caretaking or maintenance experience who enjoys working in a busy school environment and takes pride in maintaining safe, clean and welcoming premises.

The Role

As a Facilities Assistant, you will support the day-to-day operation of the school site, ensuring the premises remain safe, secure and well maintained. Duties will include:

  • Assisting with the opening and closing of the school site.
  • Carrying out basic maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Setting up classrooms, halls and meeting spaces for school events.
  • Undertaking regular health and safety checks across the premises.
  • Supporting contractors and monitoring site access.
  • Moving furniture and equipment as required.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation around the school grounds.
  • Reporting maintenance issues and assisting with planned preventative maintenance.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have

  • Previous experience in facilities, caretaking, site maintenance or a similar role.
  • Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
  • An understanding of health and safety procedures.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
