Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs and looking for a rewarding new opportunity in Lancaster? Vision for Education is currently recruiting a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN school, supporting pupils with autism and additional needs. This is an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's education, development, wellbeing and confidence while gaining valuable experience within a supportive specialist school environment.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the school's specialist SEND team to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs. You will help pupils access the curriculum, develop their communication and social skills, build confidence and independence, and overcome barriers to learning. The role will involve developing positive relationships with pupils and providing consistent, patient and compassionate support throughout the school day. You may provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils with their learning, communication, emotional regulation, personal development and engagement.

Working within a specialist SEN setting, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism, communication difficulties, behavioural needs and other additional learning needs. Previous experience working in education is not essential. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in support work, care, residential settings, youth work or working with young people, as these skills are highly transferable to supporting pupils with additional needs.

The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and confident in building trusting relationships with young people. You will have a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

Requirements

To be considered for the Learning Support Assistant position, you will:

  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Ideally have experience working with children, young adults or individuals with additional needs.
  • Have experience in support work, care, residential care, youth work or similar settings (beneficial but not essential).
  • Be patient, caring, compassionate and understanding.
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be able to remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils who may experience challenges with communication, behaviour or emotional regulation.
  • Be confident working as part of a wider team.
  • Be committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of young people.
  • Be willing to learn and develop your skills within a specialist SEN environment.

Previous school or Teaching Assistant experience is not essential, and candidates looking to move from a support-based role into education are encouraged to apply.
