Looking for an EYFS teaching role where you can give children the best possible start?

We’re looking for a warm, enthusiastic and committed EYFS Teacher to join a friendly primary school in Papworth, Cambridgeshire, from January 2027 on a maternity-cover basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about the Early Years and enjoys creating an exciting, nurturing environment where young children can develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.

Whether you’re an experienced EYFS Teacher, an Early Career Teacher looking to develop your experience, or a Primary Teacher with a passion for Early Years, this could be a great next step.

The role

As the EYFS Teacher, you’ll take responsibility for an Early Years class, providing a safe, stimulating and engaging learning environment where every child is encouraged to explore, learn and thrive.

You’ll plan and deliver purposeful learning opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, balancing adult-led activities with opportunities for child-initiated learning and play.

A key part of the role will be supporting children with their communication and language, early reading, phonics, writing and mathematical development, while also helping them build the personal, social and emotional skills they need as they progress through school.

You’ll also:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning opportunities

  • Create an exciting and stimulating continuous provision environment

  • Support children with a range of needs and abilities

  • Deliver high-quality phonics and early reading sessions

  • Observe, assess and monitor children’s learning and development

  • Use assessment to plan appropriate next steps for individual children

  • Create a positive, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment

  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and other members of staff

  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers

  • Support children as they develop their confidence, independence and curiosity

The school has a supportive staff team and is looking for someone who can quickly become an important part of the school community while providing consistency for the children during the maternity-cover period.

What we’re looking for

To be considered for this EYFS Teacher position, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK

  • Experience teaching within a primary school

  • Ideally, previous experience teaching within EYFS

  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework

  • A strong understanding of phonics and early reading

  • A positive, patient and nurturing approach to classroom management

  • The ability to create engaging learning opportunities for children with different needs and abilities

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to complete the required clearance

  • Two positive references covering your recent teaching experience

What’s in it for you?

This role offers the opportunity to become part of a welcoming primary school and make a genuine difference to children during one of the most important stages of their education.

You’ll benefit from:

  • £140–£232 per day, depending on experience and qualifications

  • Excellent rates of pay through PAYE

  • A consistent maternity-cover position within the same school

  • The opportunity to take responsibility for your own EYFS class

  • A supportive school and Early Years team

  • A dedicated consultant who gets to know you and what you’re looking for

  • Pension contributions

  • Ongoing CPD and professional development

  • Social and networking events
