Vision for Education are currently recruiting Cover Supervisors to work across a range of secondary schools in Stoke-on-Trent. Previous school-based experience is not essential, but experience leading groups of children is required. This could include working as a dance teacher, sports coach, youth leader, activity instructor or in a similar role.
About the role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher, delivering pre-set work and ensuring students remain focused, engaged and on task.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience leading children's groups who are looking to transfer their skills into a secondary school environment. Whether you have worked in sports, dance, youth work or another child-focused setting, your confidence, communication skills and ability to manage groups will be invaluable.
Flexible daily supply, short-term and longer-term opportunities are available, allowing you to gain experience across different school settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes across Key Stages 3-5.
- Deliver and explain pre-set work provided by the classroom teacher.
- Maintain a positive, safe and productive learning environment.
- Manage classroom behaviour and encourage students to follow school expectations.
- Support students with their learning and keep them engaged with their work.
- Provide feedback to teaching staff on student progress and behaviour.
- Build positive relationships with students and school staff.
- Adapt confidently to different schools, classrooms and student needs.

You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of mainstream secondary schools throughout Stoke-on-Trent, including smaller community schools and larger academies.

Requirements
- Experience leading or supervising groups of children or young people. This could include working as a dance teacher, sports coach, youth leader, activity instructor or in a similar role.
- Confidence managing groups and maintaining appropriate behaviour.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive, adaptable and enthusiastic approach.
- A genuine interest in supporting children's learning and development.
- The ability to follow lesson plans and school policies.
- Enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor or working in a school is not essential. We welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills who are keen to begin a career in education.
