We are working with Kitts Green Academy in Birmingham, a specialist school supporting boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, to recruit a confident and resilient Youth Worker to join their team from September 2026.

This role is classroom based and very similar to a Teaching Assistant position, but we are particularly interested in candidates who bring a strong background in youth work, mentoring, behaviour support, sports coaching, residential care or community work.

You don't need to have worked in a school before. What matters is your ability to build relationships, set boundaries and engage young people who may have struggled within traditional education.

The School and Role

Kitts Green Academy is a specialist setting for boys with complex SEMH needs, with some pupils also presenting with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and ADHD.

As a Youth Worker, you will work alongside teachers and experienced support staff to help pupils engage with their learning and develop the skills they need to succeed.

Your role will be about much more than simply helping pupils with their schoolwork. You will become a positive role model and trusted adult, helping young people manage emotions, develop resilience and make positive choices.

Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils within the classroom and during wider school activities.

• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.

• Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.

• Use your youth work experience to encourage positive behaviour and attitudes.

• Support pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation or challenging behaviour.

• Reinforce clear and consistent boundaries.

• Encourage pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour and learning.

• Work closely with teachers and other support staff.

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support where appropriate.

• Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, communication and social skills.

• Act as a positive role model and encourage pupils to make positive choices.

• Support the creation of a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment.
