Vision for Education is partnering with Thrive Education Partnership to recruit a Lunchtime Support Assistant for Calthorpe Academy in Birmingham.
This role is an opportunity to use your existing skills in a specialist education setting, supporting pupils during their lunchtime routine and helping them enjoy a safe, positive and engaging break from learning.
You do not need to be a qualified teacher. We are looking for reliable, patient and proactive individuals who can build positive relationships with pupils and remain calm and supportive in a busy environment.
The Role
As a Lunchtime Support Assistant, you will help pupils during lunch and outdoor play, ensuring they are supported, supervised and safe throughout the lunchtime period.
The role is approximately 1.5 hours per day, from 11:45am to 1:15pm, making it particularly suitable for candidates looking for part-time work, additional employment or experience in a school environment.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils in the dining hall, classroom or other lunchtime areas.
- Supervising pupils during lunch and outdoor play.
- Supporting pupils who require assistance with eating or feeding.
- Encouraging positive social interaction and safe, inclusive play.
- Helping pupils follow routines and expectations.
- Managing behaviour calmly and consistently.
- Supporting pupils who may experience communication, sensory, emotional or behavioural challenges.
- Escorting pupils safely between classrooms, the dining hall and outdoor areas.
- Supporting pupils with personal care or toileting requirements where necessary.
- Responding appropriately to incidents and following school safeguarding and behaviour procedures.
- Working closely with teachers and wider support staff to maintain a safe environment.
Some pupils may require physical support, assistance with mobility, personal care or specialist feeding. Candidates must be comfortable discussing and undertaking relevant duties following appropriate training and school procedures.
