Your Care Experience Could Change a Young Person's Life
Are you a Care Worker, Support Worker, Residential Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant looking for a new challenge?
Have you developed the patience, resilience and communication skills needed to support others and wondered how you could use them in education?
Vision for Education is recruiting for our Care to Classroom opportunities across Walsall, supporting schools that work with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This is an opportunity to transfer your existing experience into a school environment, helping pupils access learning, develop independence and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.
You do not necessarily need previous classroom experience. We are interested in people who understand the importance of person-centred support and want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people.
What Does the Role Involve?
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs.
Depending on the school and individual placement, your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils with classroom learning and practical activities.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
- Encouraging communication, social interaction and independence.
- Providing one-to-one or small-group support.
- Helping pupils manage emotions and engage positively with learning.
- Supporting pupils with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs.
- Assisting with personal care, toileting, feeding or changing where required.
- Supporting mobility and physical needs, following appropriate training and school procedures.
- Following individual support plans and promoting positive behaviour.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff.
- Maintaining a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.
Some placements may involve supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties or complex physical and communication needs. You should be comfortable discussing the requirements of the placement and undertaking relevant duties with appropriate training and guidance.
Why Your Care Experience Matters
Skills developed in care and support roles can be highly valuable in specialist education.
You may already have experience of:

- Supporting independence and everyday life skills.
- Responding calmly to distress or challenging situations.
- Following care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
- Working with families and multidisciplinary teams.
- Building trust through patience, consistency and empathy.
These skills can help you make a positive transition into a school-based role.
