Job Summary

Are you confident working with young people who display challenging behaviour? Are you calm under pressure, resilient and able to build positive relationships with pupils who may have struggled in traditional education?

Kitts Green Academy is looking for a Behaviour & Resilience Practitioner to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role would suit candidates from youth work, sports coaching, residential care, mentoring, support work, behaviour support, children's services or education who want to use their skills in a specialist school environment.

The School and Role

Kitts Green Academy is a specialist setting supporting young people with SEMH needs who may experience significant barriers to learning, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

As a Behaviour & Resilience Practitioner, you will work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support to pupils both inside and outside the classroom.

You will play an important role in helping pupils develop the confidence, resilience and strategies they need to engage positively with education.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
  • Supporting pupils to access classroom learning
  • Encouraging engagement and re-engagement with education
  • Maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
  • Supporting positive behaviour strategies
  • Helping pupils manage conflict and challenging situations
  • Acting as a positive role model
  • Supporting transitions between lessons and activities
  • Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff
  • Encouraging resilience, confidence and independence
  • Supporting pupils to develop positive social and communication skills

This role requires someone who can remain calm when situations become challenging, understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and maintain high expectations while showing empathy and patience.
