Make a Difference from the Very Beginning
Are you passionate about helping children with autism develop their communication, confidence and independence?
Do you have experience in childcare, early years, education, care or support work and want to use your skills in a specialist school?
Vision for Education is working in partnership with Thrive Education Partnership to recruit a dedicated Autism Support Assistant for Belgravia School in Birmingham.
This is an opportunity to support primary-aged pupils with autism and additional learning needs, helping them engage with learning, develop essential life skills and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.
Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant, an Early Years Practitioner, a Support Worker or someone looking to begin a career in specialist education, we would love to hear from you.
About the Role
Belgravia School is part of Calthorpe Academy and provides specialist support for primary-aged pupils with autism spectrum conditions.
As an Autism Support Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other professionals to provide structured, individualised support that helps pupils access learning and develop at their own pace.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils with classroom learning, practical tasks and structured activities.
- Helping children develop communication, interaction and social skills.
- Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Supporting children with transitions, routines and changes throughout the day.
- Encouraging independence and participation in everyday activities.
- Helping pupils manage sensory needs and emotional regulation.
- Supporting positive behaviour using approaches agreed by the school.
- Adapting activities to suit individual strengths, interests and learning needs.
- Working closely with teachers and support staff to monitor progress.
- Supporting personal care or other individual needs where required.
- Maintaining a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
Some pupils may communicate differently or need additional support with sensory processing, routines and emotional regulation. Patience, consistency and an understanding that every child learns differently are essential.
Who Would Suit This Role?
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:
- Autism or specialist SEND support.
- Teaching assistance or classroom-based learning.
- Early years education and childcare.
- Nursery or primary school settings.
- Residential care or health and social care.
- Speech, language and communication support.
- Youth work, mentoring or behaviour support.
- Psychology, education or childhood studies.
Previous experience supporting autistic children would be beneficial, but we also welcome candidates with transferable skills and a genuine interest in developing their knowledge of SEND.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, calm and compassionate.
- Observant and responsive to individual needs.
