About the Role

Vision for Education is seeking caring, enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to work across a range of welcoming primary, secondary and specialist schools in Chelmsford and the surrounding Essex area. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, build confidence and achieve their full potential. Opportunities include day-to-day supply, short-term cover and long-term placements to suit your availability and career goals.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support, promote inclusion and help create a positive and engaging learning environment for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging learning activities tailored to individual needs.
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs where required.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive relationships.
  • Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support strategies.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all children at all times.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), either in a school or similar setting.
  • A caring, patient and compassionate approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • A flexible and proactive attitude with a willingness to adapt to individual pupil needs.
  • A commitment to supporting inclusion and helping every child achieve their potential.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Vision for Education.
  • Two suitable professional references.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or SEND are desirable but not essential.
  • Applications from candidates with transferable experience are welcomed.
