Vision for Education are actively recruiting individuals with a background in supporting adults or children who display social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) across the Cardiff area. We work closely with a pupil referral unit (PRU) who are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils on both a 1:1 and small group basis. Often, these pupils are labelled as the “naughty” children, which is rarely the full story. Many come from disadvantaged and challenging backgrounds, and school is their safe space – a place where positive role models like you can make a real and lasting difference.

The school is looking for someone who is genuinely interested in helping steer these pupils in the right direction and act as a positive influence. You will be expected to build strong relationships and de-escalate behaviours before situations escalate. If a pupil becomes agitated, the school encourages staff to take them out of the situation to help them regulate, calm down, and re-engage with learning. This role will require you to think on your feet and use positive reinforcement strategies to get the best out of pupils.

What the role will involve:

  • Working with primary and secondary aged pupils
  • Building strong, trusting relationships
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Being resilient and supporting pupils through difficult situations
  • Working alongside the class teacher to assess pupil needs and support learning in and out of the classroom
  • Encouraging pupils to work cooperatively with others and engage in activities
  • De-escalating situations and using positive reinforcement to promote learning

The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:

  • Previous experience working with pupils who display challenging behaviour and SEMH needs
  • A Team Teach qualification or relevant training (e.g. PROACT-SCIP / MAPA) – desirable but not essential
  • An understanding of how to maintain a stimulating yet fun learning environment
  • Experience supporting primary or secondary aged pupils
  • A flexible, proactive, empathetic, and creative approach
  • The ability to remain patient, calm, and engaging under pressure
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register

The school is known to offer permanent positions to individuals who demonstrate hard work, reliability, and dedication, making this a fantastic long-term opportunity. We welcome applicants from support worker, care, sports, and education backgrounds. If you come from a different background, but feel you would still be a strong fit for the role, we would still encourage you to apply.

If you would like more information or wish to apply for this position, please contact Chris on the number below or send a copy of your CV for consideration. I look forward to hearing from you!
