Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for a rewarding role where you can genuinely change lives? Our client, a well-established independent specialist school near Shaftesbury, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated HLTA to join their team from September. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a therapeutic specialist setting, supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND), including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), Autism (ASC) and associated learning needs.
The Role
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver engaging learning experiences and provide targeted interventions that help every pupil achieve their potential. You'll have the confidence to lead learning sessions, cover lessons when required and support pupils both academically and emotionally in a nurturing, relationship-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver planned learning activities across the curriculum.
- Lead whole-class teaching in the absence of the class teacher where appropriate.
- Support pupils with SEND, SEMH and Autism.
- Deliver targeted interventions to improve learning, communication and emotional wellbeing.
- Promote positive behaviour using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Contribute to creating a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment.

- Holds an HLTA qualification or has relevant experience.
- Has experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH or Autism.
- Is confident leading small groups and whole-class learning.

- Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
