Do you have a specific interest in caring for patients requiring structural heart procedures such as TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation)? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 TAVI Nurse Practitioner to join the TAVI team. The successful candidate will assess, clerk and prescribe medications for elective and emergency patients, review patients prior to discharge, and contribute to an eight-pillars of advanced practice. This is a Monday to Friday service established for ten years, with the department having performed approximately 2,500 TAVI procedures in that period. The role supports the multidisciplinary structural heart program at the Trust, which caters for aortic intervention, septal closures and leak closures, with potential expansion to other areas. The post holder is expected to contribute to an efficient service and maintain high standards of care for patients with structural heart disease. The majority of referrals will be for assessment to decide suitability for TAVI.
Main duties of the job
- Provide specialist nursing advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with local and national targets.
- Ensure the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery at all times.
- Facilitate a smooth patient pathway through management of the caseload of patient referrals and arranging clinical investigations as required.
- Coordinate the weekly MDT and scheduling of procedures.
- Attend weekly TAVI clinics and participate in patient assessment, interpret results, prioritise workload and take appropriate action; coordinate outcomes from consultant clinics.
- Communicate with the wider MDT (anaesthetics teams, bed managers, surgeons, valve companies and theatre teams) to arrange procedures.
- Attend TAVI procedures and undertake practical training on heart valve loading in the catheter laboratory; this can be facilitated if desired.
