We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Junior Sister to join the team within Douglas ward at St Mary's Hospital. The successful candidate will have strong decision-making skills and will lead and manage a busy Hepatology ward and acute medicine side rooms, delivering patient-centred care within a multi-disciplinary team.

Nurses are exposed to managing patients with higher acuity and work closely with the Critical Care Outreach team, Hepatology team and the Medical High Dependency Unit. Main duties of the job:

  • Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
  • Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based, individualised patient care.
  • Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered, in the delivery of patient care.
  • Plan, organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload to meet patient needs.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
  • Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide information as requested.
  • Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them achieve their learning outcomes.
  • Keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence-based practice.
  • Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse.

  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable (Education/qualifications):

  • Relevant specialist course or equivalent experience
