We are looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) who exemplifies our Trust values to join the Adult Acute team on our Hammersmith Hospital site. Hammersmith Hospital provides the opportunity to develop clinical specialist skills across a range of services. It is a specialist hospital offering services including renal, haematology, cancer (including upper GI), critical care and cardiology/cardiothoracic.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a specialist clinical SLT service to adult inpatients across acute and critical care with communication and/or swallowing disorders. Skills and experience in instrumental swallow assessment are essential.
- Deliver complex case management, foster strong multidisciplinary team relationships and demonstrate leadership to provide senior support in the absence of the clinical lead.
- Work closely and collaboratively with other adult SLTs and teams across the organisation, supporting cross-site cover as required.
- Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care, and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- Provide comprehensive and specialist therapy assessment and diagnosis for patients with highly complex presentations, utilising advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based knowledge, investigative and analytical skills and specialist assessment techniques.
- Plan and organise time efficiently and effectively for patient management and use of time. Accountable for the designated area of work.
- Flexibly manage responsibilities for own complex caseload, service delivery and teaching commitments, deciding priorities for own work while balancing other patient-related and professional demands.
- As a lead member of the department, ensure teaching programmes and clinical education/supervision meet the needs of junior staff, developing and conducting local in-service and MDT training.
- Promote a culture of research awareness, research preparedness and activity within the team.
